Step 1

Ensure the tool is held firmly or locked in a vise to prevent slipping during the sharpening process. For smoother results, you can apply a few drops of Lansky Nathan’s Natural Honing Oil to the grit side of The Puck that you plan to use. This oil helps to enhance the sharpening efficiency and achieve a finer finish.

Firmly grasp The Puck with your thumb and fingers, using the palm of your dominant hand for extra support. Begin sharpening by moving The Puck in overlapping circular motions along the entire cutting edge. For optimal results, ensure you maintain a consistent angle as you sharpen. This technique helps to evenly sharpen the blade, giving you a smooth and precise edge. Take your time and be thorough for the best outcome.

Step 3

Start by sharpening one complete side of the tool’s edge, making sure to cover the entire length. Once you’ve finished one side, turn the tool over and repeat the sharpening process on the other side. This thorough approach ensures a well-balanced and sharp edge on both sides of your tool. Take your time to ensure even sharpening for the best results.

With extended use, metal shavings will accumulate on The Puck, appearing as dark grey masses and making the surface feel smoother. To clean this build-up, apply a few drops of honing oil to the affected area and spread it gently with your finger. After about a minute, the oil will lift the metal shavings to the surface, allowing you to wipe them off with a lint-free cloth. If there’s a significant amount of build-up, you may need to repeat the process several times to fully remove it.
